Reasons to Update to WordPress 4.4.1
I’ve received several messages, and I thank you for that, asking whether to update your website(s) to WordPress 4.4.1 or not. Although I have replied to everyone who asked me in person, I will also post my opinion here, to let everyone know what I think about it and in case, there are more WordPress users out there wondering the same thing and they are afraid to ask.
Why to Update? It’s working fine!
Updates, especially those who are created by WordPress, which is the best platform to build a website, are safe, always for a good reason and for our safety and benefit. I know that most of you have dealt with unpleasant situations when updating your OS but this is very different.
Although you may think that everything is working fine, you should take the update. The WordPress developers know something more than we do and they have seen something that we cannot see. So, in order to protect their brand and their customers, they work hard to keep us safe and our businesses (websites) secured and live.
What is WordPress 4.1.1 Update About?
According to WordPress, this is a security and maintenance release and it’s applicable to all versions.
They found a glitch in WordPress 4.4. affecting website’s safety due to a vulnerability that could allow a site to be compromised. Besides the security issues, there are also a few bug fixes like:
- Emoji update. Now all of the latest emoji characters are included, plus some new!
- Some sites with older versions of OpenSSL installed were unable to communicate with other services provided through some plugins.
- If a post URL was ever re-used, the site could redirect to the wrong post.
- Plus 52 more bugs from WordPress 4.4…
Do you find all these unnecessary and meaningless? I don’t think so. So update your website(s) right away in order to avoid any problems.
In case you are hosting your website(s) in Wealthy Affiliate University, besides the protection already provided to all of us, you can also recover your website to a previous version in case something went wrong and your website was compromised.
Conclusion
Always update your WordPress website and plugins. For your information, I never backup my websites before applying them and I never faced a problem.
It’s pretty obvious that I trust both WordPress and Wealthy Affiliate for their high standards and the quality of their services. It’s the best combination for someone who wants to create a website or a blog!
